What is a 1:1 Template and When Do You Need One?

What is a 1:1 Template?

A 1:1 (one-to-one) template is a full-size outline of your glass panel. “1:1” means actual size — not scaled down or photographed. Using a 1:1 template ensures we can cut your glass accurately.

When Do You Need a 1:1 Template?

You only need a 1:1 template if your glass has an arched or curved top.

This applies only to cut-to-size glass — standard off-the-shelf glass does not require a template.

For all other glass shapes (square or rectangular), you can measure and order using the standard cut-to-size instructions.

Why Not Photos?

Photos cannot be used because:
• Camera angles distort the shape
• Photos don’t show actual size
• We cannot cut accurately from a photo
• We need exact dimensions to produce the glass

How to Create a 1:1 Template

Method 1: Scan Your Glass (Recommended)

  1. Place your glass on a flatbed scanner.

  2. Scan at 100% scale (do not reduce).

  3. Save the scan as a PDF.

  4. Email the PDF to us with your order reference number (SGRXXXX).

  5. We will check the scale and confirm with you before cutting.

Method 2: Trace Your Glass

  1. Place the glass on a large sheet of paper.

  2. Carefully trace around the edge.

  3. Mark which edge is the top.

  4. Scan the paper at 100% scale and save as PDF.

  5. Email the scanned PDF to us with your reference number.

Method 3: Post a Physical Template

If scanning isn’t possible:

  1. Place the glass on sturdy cardboard or paper.

  2. Carefully trace the exact outline.

  3. Clearly mark the top edge.

  4. Cut out the template.

  5. Contact us to request the postal address.

  6. Include your order reference number (SGRXXXX) when posting.

Verifying Your Template

Before cutting, we will:
• Open your template in our software
• Check the dimensions match the expected size
• Confirm with you before manufacturing

This ensures the glass will fit perfectly.
